Trip Overview

Some of the trekking trails of the Annapurna Circuit has become motorable. Looking at this, would you still like to call it a trek? If you do the mathematics, you will find only 15% has become motorable. You know any history is related to a current event if you do the Annapurna Circuit Trek, one of the oldest treks of Nepal. You know what you have done, a good, old, reputed trek. Many old cities have been renamed, but there has been no change in the name of the oldest trek of Nepal. Annapurna Circuit Trek remains as it is although you will see the jeep running in some parts of the trekking trail. In the Annapurna Region, there are several trekking routes, and so are their different treks, but of all of these, the route of the Annapurna Circuit is one of the famous routes in the world, according to the National Geographic. One of the reasons is the landscape of the Annapurna Region which is beautiful.

As you walk the terraced lands and compare their beauties with other things, you will enjoy this highlight of the Annapurna Circuit Trek. For you, the next highlight could be the culture of the ethnic people who live in the high mountains. You may feel the Annapurna Circuit Trek displaying the best of the trekking highlights you have done so far by walking in other parts of the world. The further you trek; the more you know about that place; you reach a barren and a rocky area later, but all of these lie near the snow-covered mountains.

The Annapurna Region lies near Tibet and its landscape is similar to Tibet. The trekking route that passes the valleys, high pass, and circles the Annapurna Ranges which consist of Annapurna I, Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Annapurna IV, Annapurna South, Gangapurna, Nilgiri, and Machhapuchhre. Some important trekking stops of the Annapurna circuit are Manang, Thorong La Phedi, Mustang, Muktinath, Ghorepani, Poon Hill, and Ghandruk.

The panoramic view of mountains as well as the sunrise view from Poon Hill is the view that you could see only once in your life but is the one which you will remember throughout your life. As you reach the above-mentioned places. They will complete what you want to see in the trek, in nature, in a remote place. As you are in the high pass, you will see the stunning view of the Annapurna Ranges as well as Dhaulagiri. As you look at them, you will not be able to define their beauties there and then because words don’t come at the right moment at the right time, so you will need some time to search thoroughly and think deeply.

Yak Kharka on the way to Annapurna Circuit Trek

Early breakfast and we are ready for our departure towards Thorung Phedi. We have a hard day ahead of us and we start by crossing the suspension bridge towards Ledar Village (4200m). After descending we cross a small wooden bridge over the river and ascend back on small trails through the rocky valley. Views here are amazing but safety is warned here due to landslides of rocks, we advise strongly to walk in a distance of a few meters. Depending on how early we left Yak Kharka we plan to reach Thorung Phedi in the early afternoon. After a short rest we climb up to the Thorung High Camp to get used to the high Altitude as tomorrow we cross our highest point of the trek the mighty Thoroung La Pass. Overnight stay at Thorung Phedi.

Today will be the most difficult as we have a very steep climb towards snowy trails up to the Thorung La Pass at 5416m! Climbing over the canyon can prove tricky as the ground below is loose and the ground up is unstable. But we are rewarded with amazing views of the Annapurna range. The climb becomes steeper now as we reach close to Thorung La Pass. The trail is covered in snow and we have to walk in a single line which means a slow pace with regular breaks to catch our breath. After a good climb, we can celebrate upon seeing a small tea house which means the Thorung La Pass. We take some time to take pictures at the Thorung La Pass signboard and enjoy a well-deserved victory. Now it’s time to continue our trek towards Muktinath. Descending the Thorung La is not to be underestimated as the trail is tricky and slippery. We leave the snow behind and traverse barren plains with a few bushes here and there and finally arrive at our end destination of the day Muktinath.

We hike until we reach Jomsom (2720m) for our break. The way to Marpha from Jomsom is basically flat dust road and we plan to arrive in Marpha around the late afternoon for our overnight stay.
